Jiujiang Slate Guide
Jiujiang, in Jiangxi Province, eastern China, is one of the world's most important slate regions. For decades it has supplied two very different industries from the same rock: the billiard trade, which needs perfectly flat, stable table slate, and the roofing trade, which needs thin, dense, frost-proof roof tiles. Much of the slate exported from China comes from here — and it is the source of everything we make.
This guide is about the origin, not the product. It explains where Jiujiang slate comes from and why the geology suits its two main uses; how it is quarried, split and machined; the test data behind the stone; and how to source it directly from the factory — samples, inspection and export packing. Product specifications and buying details live in our two sister guides: the Billiard Slate Guide and the Roofing Slate Guide.
